You can select different map folder at any time by choosing File/Open menu to open folder selection dialog. Program remembers last map folder used and will use it next time when started.

If correct folder has been chosen, you will see ground level of the Tibia map. To scroll map use scrollbars or press left mouse button and drag map by mouse or use cursor keys. To change current map level use level combobox on the toolbar or PgUp and PgDn keys. To change current zoom ratio use zoom combobox on the toolbar. Also you can use Plus and Minus keys or left and right mouse buttons while holding down Shift key to zoom in and zoom out. If you want to take a closer look at certain location, left click on it while holding down Shift and Ctrl keys. It will zoom in map to maximum and will place location of interest on the center of screen. To revert to the previous zoom right-click while holding down Shift and Ctrl keys.

If map symbols has been loaded, you will see them on map and name of map symbols file will be shown on the statusbar (see Map symbols editor topic for details). To quickly hide/show all map symbols use Spacebar key. To hide/show all text labels or all marks use F7 and F8 keys respectively. Also you can show/hide marks by category. To do it, use toolbar with mark categories icons on it. By default, the map symbols over unexplored areas are hidden. To show/hide them use F6 key. If map symbols becomes too large or too small, while you are changing map's zoom ratio, they becomes invisible.

When you set mouse cursor over mark it will be highlighted and cursor shape will be changed to arrow. When you left-click on the mark you will see the text that describes it. To hide mark description left-click again.

Map symbols editor

With a help of Tibia Map Viewer you can create, edit and view map symbols. Map symbols are objects, which you place over map at the specified locations. They are used to describe area names, mark shops, guilds, monsters locations, etc. Map symbols are saved in the separate file, so your Tibia map is not modified. You can create as many map symbol files as you need, send them to your friends, load them and view over any map. In the File menu the recently used map symbols files list is displayed. You can quickly switch between two last map symbols files by pressing F12 key.

The Default Map symbols file default.tmv is included with application. You can create your own map symbols files based on it.

There are two types of map symbols:

Text label Represents text label over map. Usually used for describing area names. To set text labels appearance (font, size, color, etc) the styles are used. When you assign style to the text label object, it is displayed using given style attributes.
Mark Represents picture with name and detailed description. Usually used for describing places with small area such a buildings, monsters locations, places of interest, etc. When creating mark, you assign the mark category to it, which defines picture displayed on mark. You can create as many mark categories, as you need and you can assign any images to them.

To edit map symbols you must switch application to Editor mode. Press F2 or button on toolbar to switch to this mode. When Editor mode is activated the editing toolbar will appear. On the right side of statusbar current map symbols file name is displayed. When you have modified map symbols the asterisk (*) will appear next to file name indicating unsaved data.

If you want to create new map symbols file choose File/New map symbols menu item. In the appeared dialog you can select to clear or not text styles and mark categories. So, if you want to use text styles or mark categories from existing map symbols file, first load it, then choose File/New map symbols menu item and uncheck Clear text styles and/or Clear mark categories.

To insert new map symbol press corresponding button on the toolbar. Mouse cursor shape will be changed to cross. Left click on the map where you want to insert new symbol. Symbol properties dialog will appear. Fill in dialog fields and press OK. New symbol will be inserted.

To select map symbol click left mouse button on it. The white border will appear around the symbol, indicating selection. To select multiple symbols left-click on objects while holding down Shift key. You can also select all symbols inside a rectangle region. To do this left-click on the area without any symbols, hold down left mouse button, move mouse to draw selection rectangle and release mouse button. All symbols inside drawn rectangle becomes selected.

To move map symbols to the different place, select needed symbols and drag them to the desired place.

To delete map symbols, select needed symbols and press Del key.

To set text labels appearance (font, size, color) the styles are used. There is styles combo box on the editor toolbar, which is used to assign style to the selected symbols. When no symbols are selected the style for new symbols are assigned using styles combo box. To edit styles open edit styles dialog by pressing toolbar button or using Edit/Styles menu item.

Before using marks you have to create mark categories. To do it open Edit mark categories dialog by pressing toolbar button or using Edit/Mark categories menu item. You need to load category picture from BMP or ICO file. Mark picture dimensions are 20x20 pixels, so use image files with this dimensions to prevent image stretching. You can use bitmap files of any color depth (4,8,16,24 bits). Color value of top left pixel used as transparent color.

After at least one mark category is created, you can insert marks in the map. When you insert new mark in the map, the mark properties dialog appears. There are two edit fields in mark properties dialog. First - Description is used for short description of the mark e.g. Sam's shop, Dwarf bridge; second - Notes is used for detailed description of the mark, e.g. list of monsters, list of goods in the shop.

When you open map for the first time, the map symbols file named default.tmv is searched in map folder. If such file was found, it is loaded automatically, if not found, default.tmv file is searched in Tibia Map Viewer folder and loaded if found. If none of this files was found, no map symbols are loaded. You can manually load map symbols file of any name and from any location. It will be loaded automatically next time you will start the viewer.

Drawing modes
Overlay mode

When Overlay mode is active, upper and lower levels of the map are drawn over the shaded ground level. This mode allows you to see where any place is located relative to the ground level of the map. You can increase/decrease intensity of the shaded levels using slider on the toolbar or using Ctrl-NumPad+ and Ctrl-NumPad- keys.

Filtered drawing mode

This mode is applied only when zoom ratio less than 100%. When Filtered drawing mode is active, the map data is approximated, resulting much better image quality than normal mode. However, approximation is CPU intensive task, thus it slows down map drawing.
NOTE: Filtered drawing mode is not supported by Windows 95/98.

Merging maps

Tibia Map Viewer allows you to merge maps. During merge process, areas, that is not exists in first map but exists in second, are added to the first map. For example, your friend has been explored some new dungeon and you wish to add it to your map, but you don't want to loose the areas already explored by you. The maps merge feature will do this job for you! Ask your friend to send his map files to you, then merge them with yours. To do that, choose File/Merge maps menu item. In the dialog choose a folder with maps for merging. If Make new areas fogged is checked, all new areas will be shaded after merge, so you will see what's new you have received. The fogged areas will be seen in game too, and when you will walk on them, they will change to normal.

Exporting to BMP

Tibia Map Viewer allows you to export map to BMP file. Choose File/Export to BMP menu item or press Ctrl-E. In the dialog choose file name to export into and set needed options. When Export using current zoom ratio option is checked, the output file may be very large for high zoom ratios (more than 50Mb), so consider this while exporting.
